SWAARM Global calls on SASMA to Reconsider Stance on Concussion Headgear

SA Innovator SWAARM Global Calls on SASMA to Reconsider Stance on Concussion Headgear.

• South Australian company challenges SASMA’s “no proof” claims with seven years
of research and global validation
• Parents and junior clubs urged to focus on risk reduction – not unrealistic promises
of total prevention

Adelaide-based sports safety company SWAARM Global has responded to comments from the South Australian Sports Medicine Association (SASMA), which claimed there is “no conclusive evidence to support the use of headgear to prevent concussion.”

SWAARM argues this position risks discouraging families, clubs and schools from exploring technology designed to reduce the risk of injury in contact sport.

Simon Austerberry, CEO of SWAARM Global, said:

“SWAARM Global has spent more than seven years developing our Advanced Armour
technology, specifically engineered to reduce impact forces and lower the risk of concussion in contact sports. Our headgear has been independently tested and validated by Virginia Tech University’s Helmet Laboratory in the United States, the world leader in sports headgear testing.”

“No seatbelt, no helmet, no safety feature of any industry can guarantee absolute
prevention. What matters is whether the technology reduces risk. Critically, our data shows that it does. To suggest otherwise is misleading for parents and junior clubs.”

“We previously invited SASMA to review our findings and data, but that opportunity was
dismissed. That was a missed chance for constructive dialogue, because our aim has always been to work collaboratively with medical and sports science professionals to improve athlete safety.”

“As a South Australian company, we are proud to be developing world-leading technology here at home. We believe it’s essential that parents, clubs and schools are given access to
accurate information so they can make informed decisions about player safety.”

The patented Advanced Armour technology was developed in collaboration with Flinders
University and has undergone five years of rigorous third-party testing under internationally peer-reviewed protocols.

SWAARM has renewed its invitation for SASMA to review the South Australian–developed
technology and data, saying families in the state deserve a clear understanding of the
available evidence.
